Could humans have a meatless lifestyle?

I couldn't imagine my life without a meat. I don’t like the taste of the rice and the lentils, so my choices for a vegetarian food are narrowest, but after I saw some videos about the way the animals are killed in slaughterhouses, I just couldn't eat meat anymore.
My cat must eat meat, but as well my cat and all other carnivores need probably 0.01 % of the meat produced in the world. A lot of that meat actually is not even used, because is difficult and costly to store it appropriately. These pigs, cows and etc...are killed for nothing at the end.
Why the humans are so obsessed with the meat?!
There is not any scientific evidence that eating of a meat is necessary for us to be healthy. Some studies have shown that the reduce of the meat intake could be healthier actually.
Yes we are omnivores i.e. animals eating plants and animals, but we don't need to eat meat in case we have many other sources of nutrition.
Many people think that the meat is important, because it's the only source of proteins. This is not true. The plants as every other living organism on the earth have proteins. Some plants have more some less, so eating different plants could give us the healthy amount of proteins.
Maybe you've wondered how much protein you need each day?! That depends on many factors, but in general 10–35% of your daily calories should come from protein (www.cdc.gov).
They are plenty ways to cook delicious vegetarian meals. The mushrooms for example, give a "meaty" taste and are quite rich in proteins :).
So the facts are share here are known more or less by everybody, but I hope that I will make more people re-think.
Why we don’t use the energy involved in the animal killing to do something more creative and good?!
